Friday Funday

So I'm sitting in Starbucks researching low carb coffee drinks and decide that I should start a blog about my low carb life.

Why? You may ask. Well frankly, I think it will help me stay on track and make this a permanent lifestyle change instead of a 3 week challenge (more about that later).

This summer my doctor told me I was a good candidate for weight loss surgery (words every girl loves to hear). It put a fire under me for about 2 weeks. I started weight watchers and vowed to exercise. I, of course, didn't exercise. (I HATE to exercise). And I stopped weight watchers. (Who had time to figure out all those points?) I went back to my old eating habits and once again, I had failed another diet.

At  Thanksgiving my super health obsessed family, who exercised every day, (come on people we're supposed to be on vacation) decided we should do a 3 week challenge. We were to eat low carb for the 3 weeks before Christmas. I was in, because I knew this was something I could do, and it didn't involve exercise. Yes!

I followed it for 3 weeks and could really see a difference. I actually thought about what I ate and enjoyed what I was eating. Did I miss carbs? Of course. The first 2 days were horrible. Like eat every veggie known to man so you don't eat that piece of bread that is staring at you... horrible. But the longer i did it, the easier it got. We took 2 weeks off for Christmas and started again on Jan 6.

So far I've done pretty well for the first week and decided that I wanted to start this blog.

In this blog, I will share recipes that I have tried and enjoyed and talk about my  successes and failures. So, I hope you will join me on this journey and help me as I live this low carb life.

  1. Good for you, Shelly! I have tried to do low carb and no carb and have always failed. I hate diets. I also hate exercising. But I also hate feeling weak and tired and out of shape. So I have started doing TTapp, which has a 15-minute workout I do in the mornings, and I actually like it. No jumping or running, but it is still hard enough to make me sweat and make my heart rate go up. Plus, it's short enough that it doesn't kill me, and I have lost several inches since I've started it. If you decide to start a workout, I would recommend you check it out. I am totally going to try your cauliflower recipe! Keep the recipes coming!

  2. Thanks for the exercise tip. I will check it out. I need to start so I can strengthen my back. Every exercise I try though seems to hurt my back except for Pilates. I like the idea of a quick workout to help tone. Thanks again!

  3. I have a bad back, too, and TTapp has helped. You have to really make sure you are doing the form right and do the exercises in the right order, with the back stretch first. It has really improved my posture, too.
